Taking Lewis Carrol’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ as the point of departure, the piece investigates the conflict between today’s “power” – personified by the queen, symbol of a middle-class divested of its authority – and a naivety that means opening up to the many possibilities offered by fantasy. To acquire her identity, a dreaming Alice needs to leave her room; she needs to open up to the world and share; only with irony and by settling her conflict with the queen – representing the rule and super-ego – can she open up to a real world.
