Instrument Jam is the performance which assembles all the musical instruments used by Roberto Zappalà for his project Instruments, that has been developed in three steps, each dedicated to a different instrument: the jew’s harp (Instrument 1), the hang (Instrument 2), the drums (Instrument 3).
A wish that Roberto Zappalà had since the beginning of the project but which is realized at the threshold of the 100 representations of Instrument 1, the company production which toured the most in the world
And it is on the choreographic construction of Instrument 1 that Instrument Jam has been developed. In this case the virtuoso of jew’s harps Puccio Castrogiovanni is joined by two other extraordinary musicians, Arnaldo Vacca, at the drums and Marco Selvaggio at the hang.
To amplify and enrich the instrumentation of the musical score of creation can not but influence the choreographic score, which although not substantially diverging from the original one is enriched and “amplified” in turn. The musical echoes of the new instruments reverberate on the dance creating new suggestions and resonances.
On stage, together with the musicians, the seven dancers of the company, all men, performing with vigor and arrogance a Sicily without boundaries, where tradition and modernity meet, cross, merge.
With Instrument I Roberto Zappalà has also started the project re – mapping sicily, with the aim to reinterpret Sicily with his choreographic language.
