Salvo Lombardo’s Opacity#1 has a two chapter structure and emerges from a reflection on the colonial heritages and post-colonial imageries within the representation of bodies in the Western world. The Opacity project attempts to undermine the very principles of identities classification by investigating concepts such as flag, tradition, modernity, canon, stereotype, nation, progress, civilization, light and darkness. The first part of Opacity#1 is raising questions on the aesthetic canon and power in the representation of female bodies in classical ballet. The second part reflects on the dynamics of desire-repulsion of what we do not know, of what we consider “other” than us and about the “racialization” of sexual imagery.
