Alfio Antico

Up to the age of 18 alfio antico was a shepherd in the inland mountains of Syracuse, this allowed him to breathe, even in quite hard life conditions, the tales, the stories, the myths of the rural and pastoral culture. The first music experiences in the streets of the big cities, the meeting with the most famous Italian musicians and actors made Alfio Antico a mature artist. Alfio owns more than seventy drums, all self-made and inlaid with images of rural gods, old signs steeped in eternal wisdom. He flew to the North of Italy, in Florence, the most inviting and wonderful space to fill with sounds. And by magic, the drum in his hand expressed unimaginable sonorities which make us understand the extreme resources of this simple instrument. Alfio adds his poetic vein, expressed in the language he knows the best, Sicilian dialect; his theatricalism is natural and explosive.
Among the numerous collaborations we remember: Musicanova, Edoardo Bennato, Vincenzo Spampinato, Lucio Dalla, Fabrizio De Andrè, Carmen Consoli, Vinicio Capossela, Peppe Barra, Renzo Arbore, Roy Paci, Lautari, Gianni Perilli, Piero Ricci, Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare, Maurizio Scaparro e Pino Micol, Giorgio Albertazzi, Massimo, Ottavia Piccolo and Renato De Carmine, Roberto De Simone, Amedeo Amodio, George, Vittoria Ottolenghi .
He collaborates with the compagnia zappalà danza for the production "Instrument 3: cage sculpture" which was presented in 2009, for which he created part of the orginal music, live played on stage by himself. He collaborates again with the same company in 2013 for the production "Sudvirus"
