Luca Ballerini

Luca Ballerini was born in 1965 and was a pupil of Gino Brandi at the “G.B.Martini” Conservatory in Bologna. He later studied at the Geneva Conservatory with Maria Tipo in the courses of “Perfectionnement et Virtuosité” where, in 1989, he won the “Premier Prix de Virtuosité avec distinction” and the “G.Filipinetti” special prize. The meet with Maria Tipo has been very important for his artistic formation. He won several awards, including first prize at the Sixteenth International Piano Competition in Senigallia (’87), at the same competition being awarded a special prize for the best chamber music performance. In 1991 he won second prize at the Viotti International Competition in Vercelli and, in 1994, third prize at the Concours “Géza Anda” in Zurich.
Luca Ballerini has given recitals in Italy and several European countries and has collaborated with well known Italian and foreign orchestras (Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, RAI di Torino, Filarmonica Marchigiana, Orchestra da Camera di Bologna, Suisse Romande Orchestra, Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich, Chamber Orchestra of Zurigo, Teatro Massimo Bellini of Catania etc.).
An important role of the chamber music is the collaboration with the violoncellist Vadim Pavlov ( first violoncello of the Teatro Bellini in Catania), with the Quartet of Fiesole and the violinist Luca Fanfoni and Renato Donà.
After the prize of the “Géza Anda” he recorded a CD for the Naxos label dedicated to piano music of Alfredo Casella. He currently teaches piano at the Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali “V.Bellini” of Catania.
He collaborates with the Compagnia Zappalà Danza in 2010 for the production "naufragio con spettatore" and in 2014 for "Invenzione a tre voci"
