Nello Calabrò

Nello Calabrò (Messina 1966) lives between Roccalumera, Catania and Rome.
He graduated at D.A.M.S. Bologna, with a degree thesis on History of the cinema: “Il sonoro nel cinema di Sergio Leone”. (The sound in Sergio Leone’s cinema)
He obtained a diploma in Direction at Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, Rome.
He was assistant director in the film “Due Amici”, directed by S. Scimone, F. Sframeli.
He has been Director of some fiction short films and documentaries shown at festivals in Taormina Toulouse, Bellaria Pescara, Lipari.
He realized the installation “La mia siepe è la Sicilia” for “Parco Letterario Salvatore Quasimodo”.
Since 2001 he has been working with Compagnia Zappalà Danza, Catania, as a text author, co-dramatist (and director of the videos shown during the performances). He is editor for the publishing house Epos, Palermo, of the essay “Agata. Semu tutti devoti tutti?” Potenza, Prevaricazione, Perseveranza”.
He held classes of history of the cinema at the universities of Catania, Cosenza, Reggio Calabria.

Author of the script “Muraglie”, he reached the final in Premio Riccione; national première on 12th August 2010 TAORMINA ARTE.
Winner, with a unanimous vote, of the special mention of the jury at the first edition (2010) of Premio Solinas S.A.C.T. Piloti per serie tv.
He organizes the National Shorts festival Jonio in Corto with the association Jonio Olimpia, at Roccalumera (ME).
