Roberto Tedesco

Roberto Tedesco, class of 1992, grew up in a small town in Calabria in the province of Cosenza. He began his dance studies in his village school at the age of 11. At the age of 17 he participated in the audition to join the Balletto di Toscana School directed by Cristina Bozzolini, who admitted Roberto to the school and also offered him the opportunity to join the youth company, the Junior Balletto di Toscana. With the company he has the opportunity to gain stage experience, dancing choreography by already established Italian choreographers. After two years in Florence, Cristina Bozzolini, director not only of the school but also of the Aterballetto company, offered Roberto the opportunity to move to Reggio Emilia to begin his professional career. His experience with Aterballetto lasted 10 years, years in which he had the opportunity to work with great choreographers of the national and international scene, among them: Ohad Naharin, Jiri Kylian, Hofesh Shecter, William Forsythe, Johan Inger, Mauro Bigonzetti, etc. In addition to his role as a dancer, he soon became passionate about choreography, starting to experiment thanks to the young choreographers evenings organized by the company. He receives recognition for his choreography by being selected for prestigious choreographic competitions and receiving awards. Over the years Roberto increasingly feels the need to devote time to choreographic research and realizes that it can no longer be a secondary passion to be pursued only by carving out moments of time between commitments with the company. In fact, in early 2021 he decided to end the current season with Aterballetto and not to renew his contract for the following season, so that he could finally devote himself 100 percent to the realization of his own ideas and the pursuit of his personal goals. As a choreographer he works in Germany at the National Theater Mannheim, creates for Ballett Vorpormmern and is selected for the Think big project at the Staatsoper Hannover. In Italy he is selected for the Young Author Dance Showcase and Residance XL by Anticorpi XL and is one of the four winners of Cantieri Danza’s SupportER call for support for choreographers residing in Emilia Romagna. With the work Conscious Decision he is a finalist of DNA choreographic notes 2022. He creates for Aterballetto, MMcontemporarydancecompany and XLdancecompany.
