You may wonder what the big red “W” we are naming the 2022/23 season means.
“W” stands for “women,” but it is also the sign by which the exclamation “yay!” is abbreviated.
It is easy then, through the union of the two words, to understand my intention to once again celebrate women. For the second time-the first one was called “woman creator”-we want to dedicate this 21st season to women choreographers only; not only because very often they struggle (fortunately less and less) to find performance spaces, but above all because so many women confront dance and its creative potential in innovative, authentic, sensitive and valuable ways. In workplaces, the presence of women is unfortunately still too low, which is why I would like to emphasize that women are the real drivers of Scenario Pubblico. In fact, our working group is 80 percent women, even in roles of great responsibility-see the General Directorate occupied by Maria Inguscio, an absolutely irreplaceable figure. I would like to quote a verse from Canto XXXIII from Dante Alighieri’s “Paradiso”: Donna, se’ tanto grande e tanto vali. Even more I could express my thoughts succinctly and unequivocally, taking my cue from the Latin etymology of the word woman – dŏmĭna “lady, mistress.” But here it is not a matter of proclaiming an alleged primacy of the feminine, but rather an intimate conviction shared here at Scenario. It is precisely the work of women that fosters the confluence of ideas, projects, and especially the implementation of virtuous practices, both artistic and organizational.
Thanks to all of you.
