MoDem is the choreographic language that Roberto Zappalà has developed in his 32-year career with his company. Through practices that have acquired a specific terminology linked anatomically to flows, controls, articular and muscular exegeses, often inspired by the activity of the volcano Etna. A methodology that aims to bring the dancer closer to the language that characterizes Compagnia Zappalà Danza.

MoDem, an acronym for Democratic Movement, is also the focus of the two different programs MoDem Pro and MoDem Atelier.

MoDem Atelier is a biennial program produced by Scenario Pubblico/ Compagnia Zappalà Danza – Centre of National Relevant Interest. It is focused on the specializing in contemporary choreographic languages and the starting up in professional dance. Designed for a maximum of 20 participants between the ages of 18-22, selected by audition both in-person and Smart.

The program provides students with daily training with the aim of providing dancers who wish to enter the profession with the physical and theoretical tools to delve into contemporary dance techniques and focuses on the MoDem language.

We are looking for young dancers who are curious, creative, rigorous and determined, all necessary elements to gain a conscious understanding of one’s body as a tool and means of working in the professional sphere of dance.

The 5-hour daily trainings will consist of contemporary dance classes, ballet, theory classes, choreographic workshops, seminars with teachers and guest artists, and the study of the MoDem language.

MoDem Atelier 24/25 will start on October 7, 2024 and close on May 30, 2025.

Applications that submit. the same video for choreography and improvisation / group videos where the applicant is not clearly identifiable / dance videos instead of presentation videos / incomplete applications – will not be considered.
